FC Cincinnati's first test against a Major League Soccer opponent this preseason did not begin well.
Facing the Philadelphia Union, Cincinnati went behind early as Sergio Santos combined with Julián Carranza, who tapped home for a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest.

FC Cincinnati's performance leveled off from there, however. Despite facing significant personnel deficits due to factors ranging from Concacaf World Cup qualifying to immigration issues, Cincinnati equalized before halftime through Yuya Kubo.
FCC also managed to hold Philadelphia scoreless over the final 88 minutes of the game and held on for a 1-1 draw at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater, Florida.
