Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach talked to reporters Tuesday about the team's AFC Championship collapse against the Bengals in Kansas City.
The Chiefs led 21-3 late in the first half before running back Samaje Perine scored Cincinnati's first touchdown of the game.
Bengals defensive back Eli Apple made a key defensive stop just before halftime, B.J. Hill and Vonn Bell intercepted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Cincinnati scored 21 unanswered points in a 27-24 overtime win.
"I think (the Bengals') equation was the Chiefs' biggest weakness is themselves, so let’s just bank on them being a little bit aggressive and impatient," Veach told reporters. "That's what happened in that last game, I think, is just that we have that killer mindset. We just want to go out there and score every play and, you know, we did that early on. We controlled ourselves and we played within the scheme, and we were patient. And I think we just wanted it so much and, you know, that's why you love these guys the way we do. It's because when they see that blood in the water, they just go after it. We just got caught up in a little bit of a dilemma there in the third, fourth quarter where we just couldn't do anything right. Just a bad day to have a bad day, and that'll sit with us for a long time."
Veach added that there have been times when Mahomes just tries to do too much.
