Chiefs strike first with Patrick Mahomes’ TD pass to Hill

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (87) celebrates a touchdown catch with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) and Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Andrew Wylie (77) in the second quarter during the AFC championship NFL football game, Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

The Kansas City Chiefs answered the Cincinnati Bengals' three-and-out on their first possession of the AFC Championship win with an 11-play, 84-yard scoring drive that resulted in Patrick Mahomes' 10-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill.

Mahomes completed all five of his pass attempts for 48 yards, and ran 11 yards on his only rushing attempt. Jerick McKinnon added 24 rushing yards on four carries.

There was no play longer than 15 yards on the Chiefs' opening drive.

"That's what makes them so much more dangerous than other years - their patience," CBS color analyst Tony Romo said.

Mahomes was intercepted by Bengals lineman B.J. Hill late in the third quarter, the first pick he had thrown in 132 career attempts in AFC Championship games.
