Bengals fans only had to wait one play to redeem defensive back Eli Apple for his dropped interception in overtime.
Safety Jessie Bates III tipped a Patrick Mahomes pass intended for Tyreek Hill to fellow safety Vonn Bell, who returned the interception five yards to give the Bengals the ball at their own 45-yard line.
From Apple via Twitter after the game:
"Oh my goodness - the Bengals are going to the Super Bowl!" CBS color analyst Tony Romo said during the Bengals' drive that followed Bell's pick. "You're not underdogs anymore, Cincinnati! You've arrived and you're here!"
Romo added that he didn't think the Bengals could get a come-from-behind win at Arrowhead.
"Our defense really stepped up and made plays in the second half," Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow told CBS' Tracy Wolfson afterward.
