A teddy bear toss at a Pennsylvania minor league hockey game has reportedly set a new world record.When the Hershey Bears scored their first goal on Saturday night, fans were prompted to toss all the stuffed animals they brought to the game onto the ice. According to team officials, 52,341 stuffed animals were collected and donated to various organizations. This year's toss surpassed the Hershey Bear's 2019 event total of 45,650, which was the previous world record. Last year, due to the pandemic, the team collected the stuffed animals at a drive-thru fundraiser instead of at a game. In total, the club has collected an estimated 322,199 plush toys since 2001.The team, which is an affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals, also elicited a big cash donation Saturday night.Bears fan Jeff Sweigart said if the record was broken, he'd donate $50,000.That money will go to Children's Miracle Network at Penn State Health Children's Hospital.After the toss, the Bears went on to defeat the Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-0.Watch the video above for more on this story.
