Cincinnati Bearcats to name Gino Guidugli offensive coordinator

Quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli instructs Desmond Ridder as the University of Cincinnati football team started 2020 training camp Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center.

The Cincinnati Bearcats are expected to name passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli their new offensive coordinator, according to multiple reports Monday.

Mike Denbrock, UC's offensive coordinator for Luke Fickell's first five seasons as head coach, left the Bearcats earlier this month to join Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers staff.

The Enquirer's Keith Jenkins wrote Jan. 3 that promoting Guidugli to OC seemed like the most logical move for Fickell.

Guidugli, 38, a former Highlands High School standout who played quarterback at UC from 2001 to 2004, joined the Bearcats' staff in 2017 as running backs coach. He started coaching QBs in 2018 and was named passing game coordinator in 2020.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Monday night via Twitter that UC also is hiring Central Michigan offensive line coach Mike Cummings to coach the Bearcats' O-Line. Cummings was Central Michigan's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2010 to 2013, when Guidugli was an assistant for the Chippewas.

Ron Crook has been UC's offensive line coach since 2017. Thamel reported that UC "is figuring out a potential role within the program" for Crook.
