In a vote that ended Jan. 14, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, from high school sports action through Jan. 9.
Winners through the end of 2021 should have received a certificate through the school's athletic department.

The Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Send your nominations by Monday morning for this week's high school sports action.

The week's winners are:
Ohio boys basketball team: Elder – The No. 5 team in Division I, Elder opened its conference year with a 46-37 win against Moeller.
Ohio girls basketball team: Seton – Entering last week as losers of five-straight games, the Saints clicked to beat Oak Hills, Anderson and Fenwick.
Northern Kentucky boys basketball team: Calvary Christian – Batting in the 10th Region All “A” Classic, the Cougars won topped Robertson County and St. Patrick while also picking up a cancelation win at the beginning of the week.
Northern Kentucky girls basketball team: Holy Cross – Holy Cross went 3-0 at the 9th Region All “A” with victories against Newport, Newport Central Catholic and Ludlow.
Boys winter team of the week: Moeller hockey – The Crusaders went 2-0-1, picking up wins over Olentangy Orange on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9 with a scoreless tie against Jerome in between.
Girls winter team of the week: Seton bowling – The Saints edged Harrison 2331-2270 before winning the Back to School Bash, knocking down 2642 pins in the win.
Ohio boys basketball big school player: Joey Wassler, St. Xavier – The forward poured in 15 points off the bench and had seven offensive rebounds in the Bombers’ 61-42 win over Indian Hill Jan. 8.
Ohio boys basketball small school player: Jacob Arthur, Felicity-Franklin – He had 15 points and seven rebounds in the Cardinals’ 76-70 win over Fayetteville Jan. 8.
Ohio girls basketball big school player: Alex Witsken, Seton – She had 16 points and four rebounds in Seton’s 50-41 win over Fenwick Jan. 8.
Ohio girls basketball small school player: Piper Ritter, Clermont Northeastern – The senior forward had 15 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in CNE’s 45-36 win over Clinton-Massie Jan. 8.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball players (tie):
Billy Wogenstahl, Dixie Heights – He averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds in wins last week over St. Henry and Ryle.
Alex Castrucci, Conner – He averaged 13 points and eight rebounds in two key wins by the Cougars over Holy Cross and Boone County.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball player: Julia Hunt, Holy Cross – The sophomore was tournament MVP in leading the Indians to the All “A” Classic 9th Region championship. She had 13 points in beating Ludlow in the final.
Ohio boys bowler: Zach Noeth, Elder – The captain had a 460 series (221, 239) for fourth overall and a spot on the all-tournament team Jan. 9. He also led the team in the win over La Salle Jan. 6, rolling 458 (234, 224). He’s third in the Greater Catholic League-South in average with 215.1.
Ohio girls bowler: Rebecca Ochs, Seton – She rolled a 435 (209, 226) in the win over Harrison Jan. 4. She’s second in the Girls Greater Catholic League in average with 193.6.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys bowler: Aidan Vickers, Lloyd Memorial – He had the top individual score in the Covington Catholic tournament.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls bowler: Jade Combs, Cooper – She had the high individual score and led Cooper to the team championship in the Covington Catholic tournament Saturday, leading the Jaguars to three wins in the match-play bracket.
Ice hockey: A.J. Luzi, Moeller – He scored two goals in the 4-2 win over Olentangy Orange Jan. 7.
Ohio boys swimmer/diver: John Good, Elder – The senior won the 100 backstroke at the Princeton High School Swimming Invitational Jan. 8, helping Elder to a team title.
Ohio girls swimmer/diver: Mia Meinhardt, St. Ursula – She won the 1-meter diving event at the Larry Lyons Invitational Jan. 8, one of many Ursula swimmers who won individual titles that helped the Bulldogs win the team title.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys swimmer/diver: Cam Ayres, Covington Catholic – He won the 50 and 100 freestyles at the Larry Lyons Invitational Jan. 8.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls swimmer/diver: Lainy Kroger, Notre Dame Academy – The junior won the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly at the Larry Lyons Invitational Jan. 8.
Ohio boys wrestling: Cody Kidd, Blanchester – The junior won the 215-pound weight class at the Bob Kearns Madeira Invitational by pin in one minute.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys wrestling: Cole Thomas, Ryle – The senior won the 132-pound weight class at the Valley View Wrestling Invitational Jan. 8, helping Ryle win a team title (281 points). He was one of seven Ryle champions at that meet.
Girls wrestling: Lacie Reese, Western Brown – The senior won the 135-pound weight class at the Pioneer Class Girls tournament – Olentangy Orange – Jan. 8 after winning having a bye in the first round, winning the next two and then winning the final by forfeit.
