Elder, Fairfield, Woodward, Taft in state top 10

In the second Ohio high school boys basketball poll of 2022, Elder's Panthers have the highest ranking at No. 5 in Division I. Coach Joe Schoenfeld's squad is on the road this week at Turpin on Tuesday and at La Salle Friday. 

Elder defeated Moeller at The Pit last Friday, 46-37.

The only other Southwest Ohio team reaching the Top 10 was 11-1 Fairfield who tied for 10th with Sylvania Northview. The defending Greater Miami Conference champions have a battle with second-place Lakota East on the road Tuesday and host Lakota West and high-scoring Nathan Dudukovich Friday at home.

In Division II, defending Cincinnati Metro Athletic Red Division champion is No. 6, tied with Waverly. The Bulldogs lost over the weekend to Dayton Dunbar 70-64 and are at 8-2. Tuesday night at Woodward, there's a showdown between two of the top players in the area as Paul McMillan IV's Bulldogs square off with Division III state semifinalist Taft led by junior Rayvon Griffith.

The Bulldogs defeated Taft twice last season by two and four points, respectively.

In Division III, the Taft Senators are ranked No. 9 and will be coming off of a long holiday lay-off Tuesday vs. Woodward.

Also in Division III, Cincinnati Country Day and Summit Country Day just finished outside of the Top 10 and Nos. 13 and 14, respectively. Summit leads the Miami Valley Conference-Scarlet Division with CCD leading the MVC-Gray. The rivals are set to play at CCD on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
