The Denver Broncos have formally requested to interview current Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, a source confirmed Tuesday night.
Callahan, 37, has been the Bengals' offensive coordinator since 2019. Prior to his stint in Cincinnati, Callahan made stops at the Denver Broncos (2010-5), Detroit Lions (2016-17), Oakland Raiders (2018).
Known for his work with quarterbacks as he served as a quarterbacks coach for three seasons before earning an offensive coordinator title on head coach Zac Taylor's staff, Callahan is a young, offensive-minded coach and fits a trend the NFL appears to shifting toward.

Callahan's responsibilities have increased every year he's been with Taylor and plays a significant role in the game-planning process with Taylor. It comes as no surprise the Broncos were interested in interviewing Callahan based off his familiarity with the organization and his success since leaving Denver.
The Bengals were one of the league's top scoring offense's in the 2021 regular season under Callahan and Taylor's direction. Callahan doesn't call plays for the Bengals, and has yet to in the NFL, but is heavily involved in the process and believes he's ready to do so if the opportunity presents itself.
"It’s semantics on who calls plays I feel like he calls a lot of plays because I know that if he’s saying something he’s certainly put in the work and is an expert on what we’re about to see," Taylor said of Callahan. "If we run 60 plays, he’s a part of all of them."
The Broncos will likely have to wait for a time that fits with Callahan's schedule to conduct the interview as he is preparing for his first playoff game with the Bengals. Cincinnati hosts the Las Vegas Raiders in the wild-card round on Saturday afternoon at Paul Brown Stadium.
