THEY SDAI AROUND 730PM, THEY GOT A CALL FROM SOMEONE STAYING AT THE SUPER EIGHT IN FORT MITCLHEL ON ROYAL DRIVE, SAYING SOMEBODY WAS TRYING TO BREAK INTO HIS MOTEL ROOM. POLICE RUST YEAR, TRYING TOEL HP HIM. WHEN THEY GOT TO THE DOOR, HE WOULD NOT OPEN UP AND CLAIMED -- THIS PERSON CLAIMED HE SHOT SOMEONE INSIDE THE MOTEL ROOM. AT TTHA POINT, SWAT PERSONNEL STARTED GOIN IN. VARIOUS POLICE AGENCIES, FIRE DEPARTMENTS COMING TO AID IN THE SITUATION. EVENTUALLY, NEGOTIATORS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THIS MAN, TRYING TO GET HIM TO OPEN UP THE DOOR BECAUSE HE HAD CLAIMED THAT SOMEBODY WAS HURT. HE HAD SHOT SOMEONE. AFTER THERE WA SNO REAL RESPONSE, FLASHBANGS RANG OUT. WE HEARD A COUPLE OF THOSE A HALF-HOUR AGO. EVENTUALLY, POLICE SAY HE GAVE AINND CAME OUT. GOOD NEWS IS THAT HE WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE MOTEL ROOM SO IT TURNS OUT TONIGHT THAT NOBODY WAS SHOORT INJURED. THEY BELIEVE THIS MAN WAS GOING THROUGH SOME SORT OF CRISIS SITUATN,IO PERHAPS DUE TO A MEALNT ILLNESS THAT WAS EXACERBATED BY POTENTIAL DRUG USE. THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE TELLING US. THEY WILL STILL BE INVESTIGATING THE SITUATION. AS I MENTIONED, WE WERE HERE FOR HOURS WATCHING THIS PLAY OUT. MOST OF IT HAPPENED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOTEL BUT WE SAW SWAT PERNNELSO WALKING THROUGH EACH FLOOR. WE HEARD THOSE FLASHBANGS. WE JUST SAW THIS MASSIVE POLICE PRESENCE HERE. IT’S ROLEYA DRIVE WE WERE STANDING ON, BLOCKEDFF O DURING ISTH ENTIRE TIME, JUST STARTING TO OPEN UP AS WE SPEAK. THAT IS THE INFORMATION WE HAVE RIGHT NOW TO SUMMARIZE. WE ARE LEARNING NOBODY WAS SHOT . THAT MANWAS W TAKEN TO SAINT ELIZABETH HOSPITAL AND EVERYBODY IN THE HOTEL WAS EVACUAT.ED HELENA BATTIPAGLIA.

A SWAT team was called to a motel in Northern Kentucky Friday evening after receiving a report of a man in distress.Fort Mitchell police responded to the Super 8 motel on Royal Drive in Fort Mitchell, close to Buttermilk Pike and I-71/75, at around 7:28 p.m after they said a man in distress made statements to dispatchers that a person was trying to break into his motel room. When officers arrived at the scene and knocked on the door, they said a man shouted out through the door that he had shot someone. Police officers then immediately cleared the hotel and a SWAT team was called to the scene.Authorities were not able to make contact with the man in the room until several hours later. The man was the only person in the room. Police said the man was "going through a mental crisis likely escalated by drug use." Officers did not find any weapons in the room and said no one had been shot.The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment, according to the Fort Mitchell Police Department.
