Interviewed during ESPN's broadcast Tuesday night of Louisiana State University's Texas Bowl meeting with Kansas State, Tigers head coach Brian Kelly explained that the accent he used last month as he addressed a crowd at a basketball game in Baton Rouge wasn't such a stretch because he's from Boston and - in his words - "we don't have strong accents" and "you can't get on me about my accent."
Days after Kelly - the Cincinnati Bearcats' head coach from 2006 to 2009 - was introduced as LSU's new head coach, he spoke to a crowd at the LSU men's basketball team's game against Ohio with an accent that - as many tweeted - hadn't been previously heard from the Massachusetts native.
Social media reactions:
When Kelly left Notre Dame, he apologized to Fighting Irish players for a late-night text he sent - indicating that he was sorry they found out via social media and adding that his love for them is limitless. The next day, he addressed the team in person, reportedly for less than two minutes.
Earlier this week, LSU announced that Mike Denbrock - UC's offensive coordinator for all five of Luke Fickell's seasons as the Bearcats' head coach - is the Tigers' new offensive coordinator.
