MND takes early No. 1 in Ohio girls hoops with Princeton third

The first 2022 Ohio high school girls basketball poll from the Ohio Prep Sportswriter's Association was released Tuesday afternoon. Leading the way locally is defending state champion Mount Notre Dame who is 9-0, thanks to a forfeit victory over Princeton. The Vikings have not lost on the court, but are technically 9-1 and No. 3.

MND is led by Notre Dame signee K.K. Bransford, the reigning Ohio Ms. Basketball. Bransford leads the Girls Greater Catholic League in scoring (25.4), rebounding (9.1), assists (5.7) and steals (3.0).

Princeton has Greater Miami Conference-leading scorer Solé Williams at 24.8 points per game and La'Sonja Hill leading in assists (4.0).

MND's Cougars received six first-place votes, with Princeton receiving five. Mason at 10-1 finished just out of the Top 10 at No. 12. Coach Rob Matula recently celebrated his 300th coaching win and will travel to Princeton on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

After playing East Central Tuesday night, top-ranked MND will continue Girls Greater Catholic League play Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Mercy McAuley.

In Division III, unbeaten Purcell Marian received one first-place vote but finished at No. 10 overall. The 8-1 Cavaliers play Norwood Wednesday, then are at Summit Country Day Saturday afternoon. The Silver Knights dealt Purcell Marian their lone loss.

Unbeaten (8-0) Seven Hills also received Division III votes, while Cincinnati Country Day, now 7-3 after a holiday tournament received Division IV votes. CCD hosts Miami Valley Conference rival Summit Country Day Wednesday evening.
