Tuesday's swearing-in for incoming Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval and city council members will take place outdoors at Washington Park as COVID-19 cases rise locally.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place in Music Hall's ballroom before a maximum crowd of 250 people. Last week city officials announced anyone attending would be required to show proof of vaccination out of concern for COVID-19.
Monday, Pureval and Cincinnati Health Commission Melba Moore, made the decision to hold the ceremony outdoors.
"This is an exciting time for our community," Moore said in a news release. "We have new leadership and we are all on board for ensuring the safety and well-being of all of our citizens as they partake in the festivities.“
Pureval said in the release: "We will exercise an abundance of caution in consideration of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic."
The ceremony time will remain at 11 a.m., per the Cincinnati charter. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 30
