Man charged in stabbing of wife died at Hamilton County jail


A man died while in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center Tuesday night, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. 

Clayton Raines, 46, of Reading, died at the jail, according to sheriff's spokesperson Kyla Woods.

She said his death is under investigation and the cause of death has not yet been determined.  

The sheriff's department said more details will be released at a later time. 

Raines was in custody on a $520,000 bond after being charged in the stabbing of his wife earlier this month. 

According to court documents, Raines stabbed his wife Dec. 10 near the playground area of Gilday Riverside Park off River Road.

According to court documents, Raines stabbed his wife at least 20 times with a knife resulting in life-threatening injuries. 

According to police, Raines didn't comply with police commands and an officer deployed a Taser before taking him into custody. 

Raines' attorney declined to comment.
