Homicide unit says 16-year-old homicide victim was shot

Cincinnati police have charged a 17-year-old boy with murdering a 16-year-old girl who had been reported missing from Evanston late last month.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Desire Coston suffering from a gunshot wound in the 400 block of West Ninth Street at about 11:15 a.m. Christmas Day, police said in a news release.

Desire died Tuesday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Hamilton County Coroner's Office said.

On Wednesday, police charged Rico Pryor in the death of Desire, who is the 93rd homicide victim in Cincinnati so far this year.

The police department's homicide unit continues to investigate Desire's death and asks anyone with information about it to call officers at 513-352-3542.

2021 will be among the worst years for homicides in Cincinnati on record.
