The Cincinnati Art Museum is pausing its operations to allow staff to focus on their health and wellbeing, museum officials said on Monday.

Officials said the break will last from Jan. 3-12, during which time the museum's indoor galleries, Terrace Café, gift shop and public programs will be suspended.

The coronavirus pandemic indirectly contributed to the pause, officials said, with the museum's 235 employees being encouraged to relax and volunteer with organizations that serve the community.

"For the past two years, our museum has protected and cared for our community, our staff and a broad network of educational services," Cameron Kitchin, the museum's Louis and Louise Dieterle Nippert director, said in a news release. "Now, our staff and volunteers need an intermission to focus on our health and wellness. Whether employees choose to reconnect with family or work in a food bank, this pause allows us to grow individually while we all grow collectively."
