Gov. Mike DeWine kept busy in the days before Christmas, signing nine bills into law that will legalize sports betting, ease rules on homebrewing and make it easier for relatives to monitor their loved ones in nursing homes.
DeWine also enacted new restrictions that threaten to close Southwest Ohio's two surgical abortion clinics.

Sports betting
Ohio joins dozens of other states that have already legalized sports gambling. By Jan. 1, 2023, Ohioans will be able to place bets on collegiate, professional and esports, thanks to changes included in House Bill 29.
The industry could bring in billions for those who score licenses to offer sports betting in Ohio. But it will take months for the Ohio Casino Control Commission to set up rules and regulations.
