Former Princeton High School football standout and head coach Mike Daniels is on the move.

Daniels, who helped the University at Buffalo rank among the nation’s top-30 rushing offenses in 2021, has been named the new running backs coach at Georgia Tech, head coach Geoff Collins announced on Monday.

Daniels worked at Buffalo this past season after a whirlwind of job movement earlier in 2021.

Daniels, 36, had resigned as Princeton head football coach after the 2020 season. On Feb. 23, he accepted a recruiting position with the Army football program.

On March 25, Daniels departed West Point taking the running backs job at Akron before heading to Buffalo for a second stint with the Bulls.

Daniels was previously on the Buffalo staff from 2009-11 as running backs coach and academic coordinator. His previous college experience (prior to 2021) was at Alcorn State, Kennesaw State and at the University of Cincinnati where Daniels served as a grad assistant after his playing career.

He left Cincinnati to join former Brian Kelly staffer Jeff Quinn initially at Buffalo in 2009.

Daniels was a record-setting quarterback with a plaque in the Princeton Hall of Fame. He was The Enquirer Player of the Year in 2002. That season he threw for 2,569 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 1,387 and 24 scores making First Team All-State.

In March 2017, Daniels returned to Princeton as head coach.

After the Vikings' 2020 campaign, Daniels was a candidate for the running backs job with Luke Fickell's Cincinnati Bearcats and he recently served with the Bengals in the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship program.

At Princeton, Daniels helped turn around a program that had not made the OHSAA state playoffs since 2007, compiling a 12-7 overall record in 2019 and 2020 and, in ’19, leading the Vikings to their first postseason berth in 14 years.

Daniels was a four-year letter winner as a running back and wide receiver under head coaches Mark Dantonio and Kelly at Cincinnati from 2003-05 and 2007 (redshirted in 2006). He served as a team captain and earned UC’s Jim Kelly Spirit Award as a senior in 2007. A multi-year member of the Bearcats’ Academic Honor Roll, Daniels earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Cincinnati in 2007.
