Khalid Kareem’s fourth-quarter takeaway from Drew Lock lifts Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Khalid Kareem (90) celebrates after tackling Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon (25) behind the line of scrimmage in the first half the NFL football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at Empower Field in Denver, Co.

The Denver Broncos were driving deep in Cincinnati Bengals' territory during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 15 win in Denver when Bengals defensive end Khalid Kareem took the ball away from Broncos quarterback Drew Lock.

Kareem fumbled the ball at the end of a long return, but officials reviewed the play and determined that Kareem was down by contact when he fell to the ground after grabbing the ball from Lock.

"Any contact that occurs ... does put him down by contact by rule," CBS officiating analyst Gene Steratore said.

Kareem - who might've been inactive Sunday if the Bengals hadn't had so many injuries - left the game with a concussion, according to the team.
