Muggy week ahead. Heat index in the high 90s Tuesday

Tuesday in Greater Cincinnati is going to be hot and muggy.

Forecasters said Tuesday will be "the most uncomfortable day of the week" due to the combination of high temperatures and humidity.

"Avoid extended periods in direct sunlight and stay hydrated if outdoors during the afternoon," forecasters said.

The National Weather Service said the combination of heat and humidity will create heat index values in the mid- to upper 90s Tuesday afternoon. Some spots could reach up to 100.

There is also an air quality alert until midnight.

Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency said it expects to see levels of ozone in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" range on the Air Quality Index.

On Air Quality Advisory days, everyone can help reduce ozone formation by taking the following actions:

  • Take the bus, carpool, bike, or walk instead of drive.
  • Refuel your vehicle after 8 PM; do not top off when refueling and tighten the gas cap.
  • Do not idle your vehicle; exhaust contributes considerably to ozone formation.
  • Avoid use of gasoline-powered lawn equipment

Expect highs in the 80s and 90s this week, which scattered showers.
