The biggest shot of Ron Harper Jr.'s career will be among the 2021 college basketball season's most memorable highlights - a half-court buzzer-beater to lift Rutgers to a stunning upset of No. 1 Purdue.
The Boilermakers were playing their first-ever game as the top seed in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. ESPN Stats & Info reported via Twitter that Harper, who finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds, became the first player in Division I history with 30 points and a game-winning buzzer-beater against an AP No. 1 team.
Harper's father, Ron Sr., is from Dayton, Ohio, and starred at Miami University. He remains MU's all-time leading scorer (2,377 points) and rebounder (1,119 rebounds) as was the first player in school history to have his basketball jersey (No. 34) retired.
Pro Basketball Hall of Famer and former Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson was among those congratulating Ron Sr. in social media reactions to his son's remarkable shot:
Harper made 10 of his 15 field-goal attempts against Purdue, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. In an 86-51 loss last Friday at Illinois, Harper finished with just five points on 1-of-9 from the field.
