Xavier, UC basketball players team up for ‘Crosstown Collaborative’

Cincinnati Bearcats guard Mika Adams-Woods (23) takes a shot in the lane as Xavier Musketeers forward Zach Freemantle (32) defends in the first half of the 88th Crosstown Shooutout NCAA college basketball game, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati.

It's been dubbed "The Crosstown Collaborative."

Two days before the annual Crosstown Shootout, players from Cincinnati – David DeJulius and Jeremiah Davenport – and from Xavier – Paul Scruggs and Zach Freemantle – conducted a joint press conference Thursday morning to announce the new endeavor.

The collaboration between both programs will give players the opportunity to engage with their respective fan bases through various events on an annual basis.

Three events will be featured.

The first event is Sunday, the day after the Shootout. It's a free youth basketball camp for local non-profit youth groups at Fifth Third Arena and the Cintas Center. Players from both teams will serve as camp instructors and mentors at their respective arenas.

The second event is coming in the spring of 2022 – a Fantasy Experience Weekend which will provide both fan bases the chance to spend a weekend living the life of a student-athlete, and it will include the opportunity to play in their program's arena and receive coaching from members of the current team, as well as a golf outing.
