The Cincinnati Bengals will be without their signal-caller and star middle linebacker as head coach Zac Taylor said Logan Wilson will be out for their upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Wilson, 25, is one of Cincinnati's best players on defense and his impact in the middle of the field can't be understated. One of the reasons the Bengals rank No. 4 in the NFL against the run this season is due to Wilson's play. After Wilson was carted off the field, linebacker Germaine Pratt took over Wilson's communication responsibilities. Wilson leads the Bengals in tackles this season with 52.
Taylor was unable to say how long Wilson will be out because the Bengals are waiting on more information regarding his injury.
"(He'll) miss a week, maybe a couple of weeks," Taylor said on Monday. "That would be the bright side of things. We'll just have to see where it goes from there."
As far as if the Bengals are going to put Wilson on injured reserve, Taylor said they'll gather the information and then make a decision. With Wilson out, Cincinnati is extremely thin from a depth standpoint at linebacker. Akeem Davis-Gaither was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury in the middle of November.
With Wilson out, Cincinnati replaced him with second-year undrafted linebacker Joe Bachie who will likely continue to be Wilson's replacement.
Wilson wasn't the only Bengals player to suffer an injury against the Chargers. Starting cornerback Chidobe Awuzie also suffered a foot injury and was unable to return to the game. Taylor says he will be day-to-day this week. Quarterback Joe Burrow injured his pinkie on his throwing hand but played through the pain and didn't miss a snap. Taylor said Burrow could be limited to start the week but Burrow doesn't plan to miss any games with the injury.
The first injury report of the week will be released on Wednesday.
