Turnovers doom Cincinnati Bengals in 41-22 loss to Chargers

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) flings his helmet straps off as the Bengals fail to get a play off in the final seconds of the second quarter of the NFL Week 13 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Chargers at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021. The Chargers led 24-13 at halftime.

Trailing 24-0, the Cincinnati Bengals scored 22 unanswered points during the second and third quarters of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers at Paul Brown Stadium - having never won a game in which they trailed by 24 points.

Then the Bengals' scoring stopped.

They were ultimately doomed by turnovers - a fumble quarterback Joe Burrow lost, a pass from Burrow to Ja'Marr Chase that Chase bobbled into the hands of the Chargers' Michael Davis, a Joe Mixon fumble and another Burrow interception - to Chris Harris Jr. in the end zone during the fourth quarter as he battled a right pinky injury.

There were highlights for the Bengals - including Tee Higgins' spectacular touchdown grab in the second quarter - during their comeback, but they were held scoreless - outscored 17-0 - in the fourth quarter of a 41-22 loss.

To make matters worse, the Bengals suffered several key injuries in addition to Burrow's finger - including linebacker Logan Wilson being carted off the field.
