Two men have now been convicted in the robbery and beating of a Northern Kentucky veteran. A Kenton County jury returned guilty verdicts Thursday against Anthony Cornist, 62, and Robert Stone, 40, on charges of burglary and assault. The attack happened in the Golden Towers apartments in Covington – a senior living facility — on June 5, 2020. The same jury then recommended a 17-year sentence for Cornist, and a 30-year sentence for Stone. Authorities say that a 61-year-old man was beaten unconscious on June 5 inside of the high-rise apartments. Doctors diagnosed the victim with a fractured orbital and a fractured arm.To this day, the victim continues to suffer from pain in his arm and shoulders, officials with the Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office said. According to investigators, three people were involved in the brutal attack on the 11th floor of the apartment building. Video shows the two men hiding from to the side of the victim's apartment door, while a woman stands in front, knocking on the door. Authorities say the identity of that woman is still unknown.When the victim opened the door, two men — identified by police as Cornist and Stone — rush inside.Three seconds later the victim is seen trying to escape from into the hall while being punched by Stone with Cornist close behind, officials said. Investigators say Stone beat the victim till he fell down and then kicked the victim in the head while he laid helpless on the ground."This was an ambush and a savage attack," said Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Emily Arnzen, who led the prosecution.Arnzen said one of the attackers, Cornist, knew the victim received a disability check just a day earlier and said prosecutors suspected the men were after cash received from the check."The victim was a 62-year-old Marine veteran who did nothing to hurt anyone," said Arnzen, "And he deserved respect for his service, not a beating.”
