At White Oak Middle School in Colerain, students are taught three lessons to live by."We talk about being respectful, being responsible and being ready," said principal Kevin Gale.Gale didn't know just how much of that motto had sunk in with some of his students until he got a call a few weeks ago."And my first thought was, 'Oh, what happened? What happened on the way home from school? Someone did, something bad happened,'" he said.Something did happen on the way home from school: A good deed done by his students."It was a wild experience, because I remember her like saying, 'Someone help me,'" said eighth-grade student Korbyn Flowers.Flowers and sixth-grader Randy Sowders were walking together on Ranlyn Avenue when they saw eighth-grader Shannonn Griesinger helping an elderly man who had fallen while doing work in his yard."It scared me and I really thought he was having a seizure or something," said Griesinger."Corbin said, 'Hey, we need to go help her, see if the guy fell.' And as soon as he said that, I ran over me and Korbyn ran across the street. I asked if he needs to call 911 and he said no," Sowders said."As we were trying to pick him up there was like, he had a wound on his head and I felt I saw that he was you know, injured, and I asked, 'Could he stand? Is he dizzy? Does he need help?'" said Flowers. The kids said they were shocked but just acted on their natural instincts.“It makes me feel good as a person to know that I actually helped somebody," said Griesinger."It makes me feel happy that his loved ones were happy that we saved him because without him the loved ones would have lost someone," said Flowers.
