A man charged in connection to a deadly police chase from Cincinnati to Newport pleaded guilty to multiple charges in court on Monday.
Enquirer Media partner Fox 19 reports Mason Meyer, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, two counts of wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police and criminal mischief.
Meyer was fleeing police in August 2020 when he crashed a car into an outdoor dining patio in Newport, killing two bystanders. Meyer was indicted in October of the same year on two counts of murder, four counts of wanton endangerment, possession of meth, persistent felony offender, and feeling and evading, according to court records.
The police chase began when officers attempted to stop Meyer and two other passengers in Lower Price Hill for a potential weapons violation. When the car did not stop, the officers chased Meyer and the two passengers through the city and over the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge. The chase ended when Meyer crashed into The Press restaurant, located on Monmouth Street.

Meyer struck four individuals, killing Raymond Laible, 81, and his wife, Gayle Laible, 80. The other two bystanders, Steven and Maribeth Klein, suffered serious injuries. Meyer and the two passengers were treated for minor injuries.
Family members of the victims filed a lawsuit against law enforcement for not breaking off the chase. Family members said they sued because they want Cincinnati police to reform their policies, change the way officers are disciplined and give them better training.
