Atlanta Braves outfielder Adam Duvall, who has played the majority of his eight Major League Baseball seasons with the Reds and was an All-Star for Cincinnati in 2016, is a World Series champion for the first time.
"What a quick fun ride for Jorge Soler - started the year in Kansas City, ends the year in Atlanta and ends the year as potentially the MVP of the World Series," FOX play-by-play announcer Joe Buck said during the Braves' celebration that followed Game 6 in Houston - before Soler was, in fact, announced as World Series MVP.
"Yeah, and Duvall," color analyst John Smoltz added. "Went from last place to first place and now world champion."
Duvall was asked on MLB Network after winning the title with the Braves what his reaction was to finding out he was traded from the Marlins back to Atlanta.
"I mean they acted like I hadn't even been gone," Duvall said. "I was sitting on my couch at 12:30 at the trade deadline and thinking, 'You know, I'll just finish the year with Miami.' And here I am Game 6 of the World Series celebrating with these guys."
In July, the Marlins traded Duvall back to the Braves for Alex Jackson. Duvall hit 16 homers in 55 games for the Braves. Between the Marlins and the Braves, Duvall hit 38 homers with a league-leading 113 RBIs.
Duvall hit a first-inning grand slam for the Braves in their World Series Game 5 loss. He also homered in the third inning of Game 1 of the World Series - a 6-2 Atlanta win.
From @MLBNetwork via Twitter:
Duvall had a huge second inning during the Braves' 9-2 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, hitting a solo home run in the top half of the inning and making a spectacular leaping catch at the wall in the bottom half to rob Gavin Lux.
Duvall homered once for the Braves during the 2019 playoffs, and once during the 2020 playoffs.
Duvall was the Braves' connection - among former Greater Cincinnati high school players and ex-Reds - to the 2021 MLB postseason.
Duvall, traded by the San Francisco Giants in July 2015 with Keury Mella to the Reds for Mike Leake, hit 22 homers in 91 games for the Miami Marlins earlier this season. He's otherwise played for the Braves since the Reds traded him in July 2018 for Lucas Sims, Preston Tucker and Matt Wisler.
From @DBLesky via Twitter:
Former Reds manager Dusty Baker said he was personally disappointed in coming up short of a title with the Houston Astros' World Series loss, but added that he's "a guy that perseveres."
