A woman has filed suit against Kings Island and its parent company, Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., alleging one of the park's rides caused her to suffer from a stroke, according to court documents.
Darian Young, of Muncie, Indiana was "severely slammed around and thrown around causing severe and debilitating injuries" while riding Adventure Express, a 3,000-foot wooden roller coaster, in October 2019, documents say.
As a result, Young suffered from a cervical dissection which led to a stroke that caused permanent disability, according to her complaint, which was originally filed in Warren County Common Pleas Court in September but removed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
The lawsuit alleges in part that Cedar Fair failed to maintain the ride in a safe condition and warn guests of "the violent and rough nature of the ride and that the ride could cause debilitating injuries."
The Enquirer was unable to reach attorneys for Cedar Fair Monday night.
Adventure Express is "A high speed wood and steel roller coaster with a combination of banked turns and tunnels," reads Kings Island's website. "Guests with a cervical collar, neck brace, broken collar bone, full arm cast, braced arm cast, or full leg cast are not permitted to ride."
Young is demanding a judgment for compensatory and punitive damages both in excess of $25,000, according to the documents. The case is set to go before District Judge Timothy S. Black.
The Enquirer will update this story when more information becomes available.
