All four southbound lanes have reopened on the Interstate 71/75 Brent Spence Bridge.
Downtown's on-ramp to southbound I-71 from Third Street also has reopened.
Southbound I-71 from Downtown's Fort Washington Way will remain closed until Tuesday around 9 p.m., according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
All traffic delays related to the maintenance and construction of Brent Spence Bridge should be completed by Wednesday morning, officials said.
Construction and traffic delays will continue throughout the week:
- Starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 into Wednesday, Nov. 3, various lane closures will be on I-71 southbound in Ohio between the Reading Road exit and the I-471 exit. All lanes of travel will be open by 6 a.m.
- Later in the night, rolling roadblocks will be put into place on I-71 southbound in Ohio. Law enforcement will be in place at the Reading Road exit and hold traffic in 15-minute increments. Travel delays are expected, and drivers should use an alternate route if possible.
- The ramp from I-71 southbound to I-471 will be closed Tuesday evening. The I-471 ramp will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
- By 6 a.m. Wednesday, all southbound traffic impacts related to the Brent Spence maintenance project will be removed, and southbound traffic will be restored to its original configuration.
The maintenance project to clean and paint the Brent Spence Bridge began in March. The project was slated to finish by Nov. 15.
This was the first time in nearly 30 years that the bridge over the Ohio River has been painted.
The Brent Spence is part of one of the busiest trucking routes in the United States, carrying more than $1 billion worth of freight every day and more than $400 billion worth of freight every year.
The northbound reopening schedule is expected to be announced this week.
