The Flying Pig Marathon creates a chance for people to connect, particularly through social media, about their love of running, the city and its traditions.
The marathon and its official hashtag #RunFlyingPig provided some fun connection points. Here are few.
High school road warriors
The Flying Pig Marathon weekend is normally in spring, an off-season for high school cross country runners. So, it might follow that not many teams or runners would have spent their Halloween running in or cheering on this year's participants, considering the Ohio High School Athletic Association regional tournament and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association's state tournament were Friday and Saturday.
It wasn't just the cross country teams and staff who took part. Other teams' coaches showed their athletes how they reach their personal goals.
Oh, the costumes!
Perhaps the best part of the Flying Pig Marathon happening in the fall, specifically on Halloween day, was the costumes for spectators and runners alike. These folks didn't disappoint.
They did it!
With support from spectators, friends and family, these runners met their goals.
High fives, water and waves
Running in Cincinnati is totally a spectator sport with enthusiasts lining the streets to lift up the runners and reach out with water.
