Developer plans to convert old Macy’s HQ into residences

A New York-based developer wants to transform the former Macy’s corporate headquarters Downtown into a 338-unit residential building.

Plans also call for a 394-space parking garage to be attached to the building at 7 West 7th St., according to documents filed with the Cincinnati Planning Commission.

Developer Victrix LLC is seeking tax increment financing for the $73 million project, which would require the city to obtain the building from Macy’s Corporate Services and transfer the property to Victrix.

The planning commission will review the proposal at its next meeting Nov. 5.

Macy's closed its Downtown headquarters in early 2020 – about two years after shuttering its flagship store at Fountain Place, which is now under construction as a new mixed-use development called the Foundry.

The move was part of a broader consolidation plan by Macy's, which said in 2020 that it would cut 2,000 corporate jobs and 125 stores over the next three years.
