

Former Mason High School standout Nick Northcut has shown impressive power this season at Greenville, a High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. He entered Friday with 16 home runs in 197 plate appearances.
On Friday, Northcut had the kind of night young baseball players dream of, going 4-for-5 with three home runs and 8 RBIs in the Drive's 16-4 win against Asheville. It boosted his HR total for the season to 19 - third among all minor-leaguers, per Fangraphs.com.
Northcut hit a grand slam in the 1st inning, a three-run homer in the 2nd and a solo shot in the 6th.
Northcut, who also pitched at Mason and was named the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year, was selected by the Red Sox in the 11th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He turns 23 on Monday.
