A high school football team in Kentucky won't be finishing its season due to a number of reasons, COVID-19 being one of them. Louisville's Iroquois High School is canceling the rest of its football season, according to a statement by the school’s athletic director Glendale Zell. There were three games left and last week's game was forfeited due to the coronavirus. When asked for a reason, Zell stated that the team had too few players left to safely play out the rest of the season's schedule. Zell stated that the school's football team had up to 30 players at the start of the season, but never had more than 24 dress for any games. There were a few reasons for this, including three players not returning to the team due to having COVID-19. Another three players were lost due to football injuries, but then other players were lost simply through attrition due to unnamed circumstances. This all reduced the team's roster down to only 12 active players for practice on Monday. As a result, Iroquois students and fans will have to wait until the 2022 season to cheer the Raiders on the field.
