The New York Yankees are giving manager and former Cincinnati Reds fan favorite Aaron Boone a three-year contract extension with an option for 2025, according to multiple reports Tuesday morning.
Boone, 48, just completed his fourth season as the skipper of the Bronx Bombers. The Yankees finished 92-70 - third in the American League East - and lost to the Boston Red Sox in the AL wild-card game.
He was among Greater Cincinnati and Reds connections to Major League Baseball's 2021 postseason before the Yankees were eliminated.
Boone, a third-round draft pick of the Reds in 1994, played for the Reds from 1997 to 2003, when Cincinnati traded him to the Yankees.
Boone played for his father, Bob, who managed Cincinnati from 2001 to 2003, and played with his brother, Bret, with the Reds in 1997 and 1998.
