Northern Kentucky Montessori Academy changes its name
Northern Kentucky Montessori Academy no longer exists.
The school in Crescent Springs is rebranding due to confusion after the 2019 merger between the school and the Greater Cincinnati Center for Montessori Education. People have mixed up the names, so the Montessori academy decided to rebrand, changing its name to Crescent Ridge Academy. The new entity encompasses Montessori education for children and Montessori teacher instruction for adults.
The name reflects a crescent moon, symbolizing opportunity and imagination, according to a press release. The word Ridge comes from the school's location.
Crescent Ridge Academy enrolls children ages 2 through 12 and has more than 100 students. Its teacher education program instructs those who wish to become Montessori teachers.
Montessori education utilizes a student-led and self-paced curriculum of "multi-sensory learning" and "passionate inquiry," according to the American Montessori Academy. Lessons in Montessori schools are typically more interactive, and classrooms usually contain multiple grade levels.
Montessori education encourages respect for the child and freedom within limits. More information about Crescent Ridge Academy's Montessori model can be found on the school's website.

Brent Spence Bridge repair project finalist for award
The Brent Spence Bridge's repairs last year are a finalist in the America's Transportation Awards competition.
On Nov. 11, 2020, a truck jackknifed on the bridge. It was struck by another truck, and a large amount of fuel caused a fire that lasted for two hours. The bridge was closed until a few days before Christmas.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet was nominated for the award due to its quick repair work and communication during the closure, according to the award's website.
The Brent Spence Bridge repair project is one of 12 finalists in the ATA competition. Projects are judged for quality of life/community development, best use of technology and innovation, and operations excellence.
“This competition recognizes just a few examples that highlight the ways in which state DOTs are improving quality of life and economic vitality of our communities, saving time and money through new innovations and technologies, and making better use of assets already in place," Jim Tymon, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, wrote in a press release.
The finalists are competing for both a grand prize and people's choice award. Winners of both prizes will be given $10,000, which can be given to a charity or transportation-related scholarship of the winning Department of Transportation's choosing.
An independent panel of transportation industry experts will choose the grand prize winner, and the public can vote for the people's choice award winner. Votes are weighted by each state's population, and individuals are allowed one vote per day. Online voting ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25.
