Another restaurant along Cincinnati's riverfront has closed. Joella's Hot Chicken quietly closed its doors in early October. The restaurant chain blamed several factors for its closure, including seeing fewer people downtown for events and work during COVID-19. The Louisville-based chicken joint also said street closures eliminated its ability to conduct delivery services — a key part to its service before and during the pandemic. "In addition, we are happy to have been able to offer employment to all Joella's employees from The Banks at our two other Cincinnati-area restaurants," a statement from the company reads in part, adding that it does have plans to expand in the Cincinnati region in 2022. The restaurant opened at The Banks in mid-2018, specializing in Nashville-style hot chicken. The restaurant chain offers antibiotic- and hormone-free chicken in six spice levels: Traditional Southern, Spiked Honey, Ella's Fave, Tweener, Hot and "Fire-in da-Hole." There are also many made-from-scratch side dishes such as creamy mac and cheese, sweet vinegar slaw, garlic fries and kale crunch salad.Joella's Hot Chicken was founded in 2015 in Louisville, Kentucky.
