FC Cincinnati trades for NYCFC defender Ronald Matarrita

FC Cincinnati's back line looks a lot more sound after the club on Tuesday announced the acquisition of Costa Rican international Ronald Matarrita.

FC Cincinnati sent $500,000 in general allocation money (GAM) to New York City FC in a trade for the outside back. FC Cincinnati then signed Matarrita to a multi-year extension, according to the club.

The details of the extension weren't released.

FC Cincinnati could send an additional $100,000 in GAM to New York if Matarrita reaches the threshold for performance incentives.

New York City FC defender Ronald Matarrita controls the ball as Portland Timbers midfielder Andres Flores defends in the second half at Yankee Stadium on July 7, 2019.

Matarrita, whose 2019 base salary was reported to be $300,000 by the Major League Soccer Players Association, is a U.S. Permanent Resident and will occupy a domestic roster spot on FC Cincinnati’s 2021 roster.

The Enquirer will update this story.
