A man wanted in connection with Friday's fatal shooting in Brown County died following a confrontation with deputies in Clinton County, state officials said on Sunday.
A preliminary autopsy report by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office indicates that Jason Metcalfe, 41, died from injuries sustained from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Steve Irwin, press secretary for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, said in a statement.
Officials said Metcalfe shot and killed Timothy Vogel, 32, following an altercation.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find Vogel suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, officials said. Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but Vogel died before they could transport him to a hospital for treatment.
Metcalfe fled the scene in a stolen 2016 white Chevrolet, according to the Sheriff's office.
Officials said a pursuit followed which spanned multiple counties and jurisdictions before Metcalfe was stopped along Ohio State Route 134 south of Patch Road in Clinton County using stop sticks.
According to the sheriff's office, Metcalfe then exited his vehicle brandishing a weapon, at which point law enforcement officials shot at Metcalfe.
Officials said emergency personnel rendered care to Metcalfe, and he was taken to the hospital by a medical helicopter.
Irwin said BCI's investigation is ongoing, adding that once complete, it will be referred to the Clinton County Prosecutor's Office.
