Following the passage of a law banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy in Texas, Women's March protests will be held in cities across every state on Saturday, including Greater Cincinnati.
There are more than 650 planned marches in all 50 states and Washington.
In Mason, Ohio, a march is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Lakes Park, located at 211 Kings Mills Road.
Organizers said the protest is in response to recent efforts on the local and national levels that have been stripping women of their reproductive rights and medical autonomy.
They cited the abortion ban passed in Lebanon, Ohio, back in August and considerations by Mason and other Warren County cities to pass a similar ban.
The Cincinnati Stand for Reproductive Freedom March will be held at noon at Fountain Square Plaza, located at 500 Vine Street. Protestors will meet at Fountain Square then move to City Hall and the Hamilton County Courthouse.
Covington's Women's March will be held at 1 p.m. in front of the US District Court Clerk's Office, located at 35 W. 5th St.
Women's March Executive Director Rachel O'Leary Carmona told USA TODAY that while abortions have never been fully accessible, a Mississippi challenge to the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, Texas' abortion legislation, and the possibility of other states passing similar laws, represent an "unprecedented attack" on reproductive freedoms.
"For a long time, groups of us were ringing the alarm bell around abortion access and many of us were told we were hysterical and Roe v. Wade will never be overturned," Carmona said. "But now it's clear that our fears were both rational and proportional. We are at a break-glass moment for America, and now's the time for mass mobilization and federal action."
