After two seasons away, the Cincinnati Opera is returning next summer with a new season of indoor and in-person performances.
Beginning in June 2022, the Cincinnati Opera will have a five-opera season, including three shows at Music Hall and two world premieres at the School for Creative and Performing Arts' Corbett Theater. The two premieres were delayed from what would have been the opera's 100th anniversary in 2020.
The opera, the second oldest opera company in the United States, will also have creative collaborations with renowned singers, directors, conductors, designers, the Cincinnati Opera Chorus, the Cincinnati Ballet and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, according to a release.
Operas in the 2022 season include:
- Giacomo Puccini’s "La Bohème" – June 18, 23 and 25, Music Hall
- Gilbert and Sullivan’s "The Pirates of Penzance" – July 7, 9 and 10, Music Hall
- Giuseppe Verdi’s "Aida" – July 21, 23, 29 and 31, Music Hall
- William Menefield and Sheila Williams’s "Fierce" – July 6 and 8, SCPA's Corbett Theater
- Gregory Spears and Tracy K. Smith’s "Castor and Patience"– July 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30, SCPA's Corbett Theater
