Update: The Cincinnati Bengals' injury report Wednesday confirmed that safety Jessie Bates III will miss his first game since entering the National Football League in 2018 because of a neck injury.
Bates has started all 51 games for the Bengals since they selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Earlier: Bates was among four players not participating in Tuesday's practice in advance of Thursday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Paul Brown Stadium.
The others were receiver Tee Higgins, defensive back Chidobe Awuzie and guard Xavier Su'a-Filo.
Offensive tackle Riley Reiff was a limited participant Tuesday.
An estimated injury report the team released Monday indicated that Bates would've been among five players not participating in practice. Defensive backs Trae Waynes and Darius Phillips and linebacker Markus Bailey were all full participants Tuesday after being listed Monday as limited participants.
The extent of Bates' neck injury wasn't known by many until the injury report was released, though the fourth-year player did appear to suffer an awkward hit during the Bengals' 24-10 win in Pittsburgh.
