Third-round pick Joseph Ossai officially put ink to paper.
The Bengals defensive end signed his rookie contract, the team announced.
Ossai was selected by the Bengals in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was the first defensive player picked by Cincinnati in this year’s draft.
“He’s relentless. He really brings a nice physical presence, has great burst off the edge. I really like what he brings to the table,” Bengals coach Zac Taylor said of Ossai after the team drafted him.
Ossai was a three-year defensive lineman and linebacker at Texas. He played in 36 games for the Longhorns. The defender recorded 165 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 30 tackles for loss and two interceptions during his three years in Austin. He was first‐team All‐Big 12 honoree in 2020.
The Texas product has been participating in Bengals' voluntary workouts this offseason.
Ossai is known for his relentless motor. He brings much-needed pass rushing help to a Bengals defense that definitely needs assistance getting after the quarterback.
The Bengals expect the edge rusher to contribute as a rookie. He'll wear jersey No. 58.
