Ohio health department releases two-day total of COVID-19 cases
ALSO THOSE VACCINES ARE STILL TRYING TO GET TO OHIO. LET’S LISTEN IN TO THE GOVERNOR JOYCE TO TAKE BUT I WOULD ASK YOU TO HAVE A SENSE OF URGENCY ABOUT THAT AND THE SAME GOES FOR THOSE. WHO WERE ENTRUSTING WITH PUTTING THE SHOTS IN THE ARMS? THOSE FOLKS IN THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY WHO ARE DOING THIS THE INSTITUTIONS THAT ARE DOING IT. WE THANK THEM FOR WHAT THEY’RE DOING. WE ALSO ASKED THEM TO HAVE THAT THAT SENSE OF URGENCY. WE CAN’T. CONTROL, HOW FAST? THE VACCINE COMES INTO THE STATE OF OHIO. AND WE KNOW THAT THERE’S A SCARCITY. WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE TWO STREAMS COMING IN PFIZER MODERNA. WE HOPE THOSE STREAMS GET WIDER AS THE AS THE WEEK’S GO ON, AND WE CERTAINLY HOPE THERE ARE MORE STREAMS THAT ARE COMING ON MORE DRUG COMPANIES THAT WILL DEVELOP VACCINES THAT ARE READY TO GO. SO WHA WE HOPE WILL OCCUR WHAT WE THINK WILL OCCUR IS THAT THAT WILL GO OUT LIKE THAT AND IT WILL HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES EVERY SINGLE WEEK WITH MORE OF THE VACCINE COMING IN. TO THE STATE OF OHIO, BUT WE CAN’T CONTROL WHAT WE CAN’T CONTROL. HOW MUCH COMES IN EVERY WEEK WE CERTAINLY CAN CONTROL HOW FAST THAT WE GET IT OUT AND THAT IS INCUMBENT UPON ALL OF US OHIOANS TO MAKE SURE IT GETS OUT JUST AS FAST AS WE CAN GET IT OUT. IT IS A LIFE SAVER. WE WILL NEVER KNOW. THOSE PEOPLE WHO GET THE VACCINE WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN SAVED, BUT WE DO KNOW THAT MANY MANY MANY LIVES WILL BE SAVED. WE KNOW THAT. THERE’S A MORAL IMPERATIVE. GET THIS OUT JUST AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN. I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT TODAY. SO WHO’S DOING? VACCINATIONS FIRST OF ALL, LET’S START WITH OUR PHARMACY PARTNERS WALGREEN CVS ABSOLUTE PHARMACY IN FARM SCRIPT THEY ARE GOING INTO OUR NURSING HOMES. TODAY EVERY DAY. IN VACCINATING THE RESIDENCE AND ALSO VACCINATING. THE MEMBERS EMPLOYEES ALL OF WHOM WANT TO GET SHOTS ALL COURSE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS WITH BOTH THE RESIDENTS AND THE EMPLOYEES SECOND IS OUR HOSPITALS HAD A GOOD CONVERSATION WITH THE HOSPITAL THIS MORNING THE CEOS OF ALL OUR HOSPITALS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO. THEY ARE VACCINATING OUR PEOPLE WHO ARE ON THE FRONT LINE OUR HEALTH CARE WORKE WHO ARE DEFENDING US PROTECTING US TAKING CARE OF OUR LOVED SEEING THINGS THAT NONE OF US HAVE EVER SEEN UNLESS WE’VE WORKED DIRECTLY WITH WITH THE COVID PATIENT. AND SO THEY’RE DOING IT AND WE’RE VERY VERY GRATEFUL FOR WHAT THEY DO AND THERE IS A REAL IMPERATIVE THAT THEY GET VACCINATED JUST AS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS WELL. AND THEN FINALLY THE THIRD GROUP IS OUR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND AND THEY’RE BUSY THEY CONTINUE TO DO THE TRACING THEY CONTINUE TO ALL THEIR THINGS THAT LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT’S DO WITHOUT A PANDEMIC EVEN BEING AROUND YOU ADD TO THAT THE TRACING AND WHAT GOES ALONG WITH THAT. IT’S A BIG JOB. NOW IN ADDITION TO THAT THEY HAVE SOME OF THE BURDEN IN SOME OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE VACCINATING INDIVIDUALS. FOR EXAMPLE, EMS. OUR EMS SQUADS ARE BEING VACCINATED NOW BY OUR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT SOME OF OUR CONGREGATE CARE SETTINGS ARE BEING VACCINATED BY OUR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT. SO AGAIN, WE APPRECIATE THEM VERY VERY MUCH AND WE THANK THEM FOR WHAT? THEY DO JUST AS WE THANK THE HOSPITAL’S JUST AS WE THANK OUR PHARMACY PARTNERS. SO I SAID WE HAD A GOOD CALL THIS MORNING WITH THE CEOS OF OUR HOSPITALS IN STATE OF OHIO. IT’S JUST BEEN A UNIQUELY OHIO RELATIONSHIP DURING THIS PANDEMIC. STARTED FEBRUARY WE MARCH WE TRIED TO REALLY PULL EVERYBODY TOGETHER. WE HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE OHIO HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION. WE’RE SHARING DATA LIKE IT’S NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE WE’VE DIVIDED WE DIVIDE IT BACK IN MARCH THE STATE INTO THREE SEPARATE ZONES. WE HAVE LEAD HOSPITAL ZONES AND THEY IN TURN ARE THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE LOCAL HOSPITALS THAT SERVE. OTHER OHIOANS ARE GETTING WHAT THEY NEED WHETHER IT ONE POINT IT WAS IS PPE NOW FOCUSING ON VACCINATIONS, BUT THEY’RE THERE TO HELP IN THAT SYSTEM THAT WE ESTABLISHED WITH THE HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION HAS BEEN A SYSTEM THAT HAS WORKED EXCEEDINGLY WELL, AND NOW WE’RE ASKING IT TO EVEN EVEN MORE WE ARE ASKING OUR HOSPITALS. WHEN THEY GET THE VACCINE. TO DO EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO GET THAT VACCINE OUT. INTO PEOPLE’S ARMS WITHIN 24 HOURS AND THEN TO REPORT IT. BACK TO THE STAGE SO WE KNOW WHAT’S WHAT’S HAPPENED. WE CAN SHOW THIS TO EVERYBODY ON OUR DASHBOARD THAT THOSE FACTS NATIONS HAVE IN FACT TAKEN PLACE. SO WE’RE ASKING 24 HOURS TO GET IT IN 24 HOURS AFTER THAT TO GET IT REPORTED. NOW, WE KNOW THAT THAT’S NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE POSSIBLE, YOU KNOW, FOR EXAMPLE THAT SOME OF THIS MAY COME IN TO A BIGGER HOSPITAL THEN IT GOES OUT TO A SMALLER HOSPITAL AND SO THERE’S MAYBE SOME DELAY THERE. WE ALSO KNOW THAT SOME OF THE BIGGER HOSPITALS WILL GET AA CHUNK OF IT AT ONE TIME AND IT’S GOING TO BE PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT OUT WITHIN 24 HOURS, BUT WE ASKED THEM TO AIM FOR THAT AND TO DO THE BEST THAT THEY CAN TO TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT THAT VACCINE IS GONE IT’S USED IN PEOPLE’S ARMS WITHIN PERIOD OF TIME WE TALK FOR A MOMENT NOW TO GO FROM THOSE WHO ARE GIVING THE SHOTS TO THOSE WHO ARE RECEIVING THE SHOTS AND WHAT TALK A LITTLE BIT. TO MY FELLOW OHIOANS WHO ARE IN THAT POSITION TODAY FIRST OF ALL, THIS IS YOUR CHOICE WE BELIEVE THAT MEDICAL SCIENCE CLEARLY SHOWS THAT IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO. THAT IT IS WAY ANY RISK THAT MIGHT BE THERE VERSUS THE GAIN THAT THE GAIN FAR FAR OUT SEEDS THE RISK AND I THINK EVERY PROFESSIONAL HAS SAID THAT BUT WE ASK YOU NOT TO LISTEN TO ME. I’M NOT A DOCTOR BUT RATHER TO LISTEN TO THE DOCTORS AND LISTEN TO THE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN REGARD TO THAT. ONE THING I WOULD CAUTION EVERYONE WHO IS IN GROUP 1A. AND WHO WAS OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO TO GET THAT SHOT? AGAIN COMES BACK TO A SENSE OF URGENCY. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE. IF YOU PASS THAT UP, THERE’S NO GUARANTEE WHEN YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT AGAIN, AND LET ME JUST GIVE A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES. NURSING HOMES NURSING HOME STAFF AND RESIDENTS OF NURSING HOMES. THE WAY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SET THIS PROGRAM UP. IS THAT THE PHARMACY COMPANY THAT IS VACCINATING. ON THE OUR BEHALF. WE’LL MAKE THREE STOPS TO EACH NURSING HOME THREE DIFFERENT DATES. THEY WILL COME INTO THAT NURSING HOME THE FIRST DATE THEY WILL VACCINATE EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO BE VACCINATED. STAFF RESIDENCE YOU’LL COME BACK ON A SECOND DATE THREE WEEKS OR SO LATER AND THEY WILL GIVE THE SECOND VACCINE TO THOSE WHO GOT THE FIRST TIME. THEY ALSO AT THAT POINT. WE’LL SEE IF THERE’S ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS THAT VACCINE IN THE NURSING HOME. AFTER THAT IF YOU DON’T GET YOUR FIRST SHOT, THEN WE CAN’T GUARANTEE YOU. WHEN YOU’LL BE ABLE TO GET THAT. MEANS FOR EXAMPLE, LET’S TAKE A 35 YEAR OLD WHO IS IN A NURSING HOME WHO WORKS IN A NURSING HOME IF THEY DON’T TAKE THAT SHOT ON THAT SECOND OCCASION. THEY MAY COME INTO IT JUST SIMPLY A DIFFERENT CATEGORY AND IT MAY BE A MATTER OF MONTHS BEFORE THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT. SO AGAIN, THIS IS EVERYONE MAKES THEIR OWN CHOICE ABOUT THIS, BUT WE JUST WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THAT OPPORTUNITY MAY NOT COME BACK FOR A WHILE NOW OUR GOAL ULTIMATELY IS TO OFFER THIS TO EVERYBODY IN THE STATE OF OHIO, BUT WE KNOW THAT’S GOING TO TAKE MONTHS AND SO JUST A KIND OF A WORD OF CAUTION IN REGARD TO THAT THE SAME WAY WOULD BE WITH OBVIOUSLY WITH HEALTH HEALTHCARE STAFF THAT OPPORTUNITY AGAIN MAY NOT COME BACK OR AT LEAST LEAST WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ME TALK A MOMENT ABOUT NURSING HOME RESIDENTS WE’VE HAD. LARGE NUMBER OF NURSING HOME RESIDENTS WHO ARE TAKING THE VACCINE. WE THINK ANATOLE IT’S ROUGHLY 80% AND SO VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN NURSING HOMES ARE TAKING THAT I WOULD SPEAK NOW TO FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SOMEO IN A NURSING HOME UNLESS THERE IS SOME REASON THAT PERSON YOUR LOVED ONE SHOULD NOT GET THE VACCINE, YOU KNOW AGAIN, YOU MIGHT WANT TO TALK TO THEM AND URGE THEM. TO DO THAT AGAIN. IT’S THEIR INDIVIDUAL CHOICE WHERE THEY GET THE VACCINE OR NOT. BUT AGAIN, MISSING THAT OPPORTUNITY THERE’S NO GUARANTEE WHEN THAT WILL OCCUR IT COULD OCCUR AND FEW WEEKS, BUT WE JUST WE JUST DON’T KNOW. SO AGAIN TAKING THAT OPPORTUNITY IS REALLY I THINK IS A VERY WISE THING TO DO. LET ME TALK FOR A MOMENT TO OUR NURSING HOMES WHO ARE DOING SO MUCH AND TRYING TO WORK HARD TO KEEP COVID OUT OF THE NURSING HOMES, VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO DO WHEN WE HAVE GREAT SPREAD IN THE COMMUNITY. WELL NOW THE VACCINE IS IS HERE. WHEN YOU’RE CALLED. TO SCHEDULE AND IS REALLY A SCHEDULING ISSUE BY ONE OF THE PHARMACY COMPANIES. WE WOULD JUST ASK YOU WHEN THEY GIVE YOU A DATE. DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO MAKE MAKE THAT DATE AGAIN BECAUSE THAT KEEPS NAPLES US TO CONTINUE TO VACCINE VACCINATE PEOPLE AT A HIGH RATE AND AGAIN IF YOU DON’T TAKE THAT DAY, YOU KNOW, THERE WILL PUSH YOU BACK TO ANOTHER DATE AND THEY’LL COME BUT AGAIN YOU’RE LOSING THAT PERIOD OF TIME WHEN YOU COULD HAVE HAD THE FIRST VACCINATION AND THEN THREE WEEKS LATER THE SECOND VACCINATION IN THE ARMS OF ANYBODY IN YOUR NURSING HOME WHO WANTS THAT SO JUST JUST SOME SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT EVERY WEEK ON DATE WE ARE TOLD THE AMOUNT OF THE VACCINE THAT IS COMING. SO SO ON TUESDAY YESTERDAY. WE WERE TOLD THAT SIXTY NINE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOSES OF MODERNA WILL BE COMING IN TO THE STATE NEXT WEEK PFIZER FIRST DOSE SEVENTY THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND ALSO FROM PFIZER THE SECOND DOSE TO BE ALLOCATED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING SECOND DOSE 98,000. 75 SO THAT IS WHAT WILL BE COMING IN NEXT WEEK. OUR DASHBOARD ALSO AS OF NOW AND WE’VE HAD WE’VE HAD SOME ENTITIES THAT HAVE HAD TROUBLE DOWNLOADING OR LOADING. UPLOADING DOWNLOADING LOADING IT INTO OUR SYSTEM. SO WE DON’T THINK THIS NUMBER IS PRECISELY ACCURATE, BUT WE THINK IT’S FAIRLY CLOSE NINETY-FOUR THOUSAND AND SEVENTY EIGHT OHIOANS AS OF FEW HOURS AGO HAD RECEIVED THE VACCINE. ERIK LET’S GO TO OUR KEY INDICATOR SLIDE FOR TODAY. AND YOU’LL SEE. THAT WE’RE KIND OF BACK UP HERE. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN WE WENT THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS THE HOLIDAYS SKEW ALL KINDS OF NUMBERS. AND THEY’RE NEVER REALLY A GOOD TIME TO LOOK AT IT AND SEE WHAT THE TREND LINES ARE. WE ARE BACK UNFORTUNATELY UP IN THE EIGHT THOUSAND RANGE WITH CASES. THIS IS WHERE WE’VE REALLY BEEN FOR FOR SOME TIME AS YOU CAN SEE. IT’S BACK IN THIS AREA. THE DEATHS TRAGICALLY A HUNDRED THIRTY THREE REPORTED HOSPITALIZATIONS 366 ICU ADMISSIONS 36 WHICH IS ABOUT THE SAME AS THE 21-DAY 21-DAY AVERAGE ERIC. LET’S GO TO THE 1 TO 88 COUNTIES SLIDE. COUNTY SLIDE. AND AGAIN, THIS IS SLIDE THAT YOU’RE VERY FAMILIAR WITH BY NOW AND AGAIN YOU CAN SEE DOWN HERE AT THE BOTTOM IS HOLMES COUNTY HOLMES COUNTY IS ABOUT THREE TIMES. SO THE LOWEST OF THE ADA COUNTY IS ABOUT THREE TIMES. EVEN OUR LOUIS COUNTY. IT’S STILL ABOUT TIMES WHAT THE HI? LEVEL IS ACCORDING TO THE CDC. LET’S GO TO THE OTHER ONE AGAIN PICK AWAY COUNTY AT TOP AND 11 11 TIMES. PERRY COUNTY, WHICH IS XX ABOUT SEVEN TIMES. SO AGAIN, IT GIVES YOU AN IDEA. THIS IS AGAIN WHAT PEOPLE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK AT. LOOK UP YOUR COUNTY. YOU CAN DO IT ANY DAY. WE’VE GOT THE DATA FOR FOR YOU COUNTING IT ALWAYS GOES BACK TWO WEEKS HOW MANY NUMBER OF CASES AND THEN WE AND WE EVEN THAT OUT BASED ON POPULATION SO YOU CAN SEE BASED ON POPULATION WERE THE MOST SPREAD IS AND WHERE YOUR HOW YOUR COUNTY IS DOING AGAIN? SPREAD IS EVERYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO SOME COUNTIES, OBVIOUSLY OR HIGHER THAN OTHERS ERIC. LET’S GO TO THE NEXT HE MEASURE MAP. THESE ARE THE KEY MEASURE MAPS THAT WE STARTED SHOWING YOU A LAST WEEK THESE MAPS ALLOW US TO MONITOR THE LEVEL OF SPREAD IN OUR COMMUNITIES AS WELL AS THE BURDEN THE VIRUS IS PLACING ON REGIONAL HOSPITAL SYSTEMS. SO AGAIN, THIS IS REALLY PUT IN THE FORM OF A MAP WHAT WE JUST SAW IN THE ONE THROUGH 88 AND AGAIN THE DARKER IT IS THE MORE CASES IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. SO YOU GET KIND OF AN IDEA YOU CAN LOOK AT YOUR COUNTY, SEE HOW YOU’RE DOING COMPARED TO COMPARED TO OTHER OTHER COUNTIES. ON THE RIGHT WE’VE MAPPED COVID-19 ICU UTILIZATION BY REGION. AGAIN OUR HOSPITAL PEOPLE ON OUR MEDICAL EXPERTS TELL US THAT THIS IS REALLY THE BEST WAY TO LOOK AT WHAT KIND OF BURDEN WE HAVE ON OUR HOSPITALS AND THAT IS TO LOOK AT THE ICU DATA. THIS SHOWS US WHAT PERCENTAGE OF ALL PATIENTS HOSPITALIZED IN THE ICU OR COVID-19 POSITIVE IS AVERAGED OUT OVER THE PAST WEEK. THIS IS DONE BY REGION. ALL REGIONS OF THE STATE HAVE AT LEAST ONE FIFTH OF THEIR ICU PATIENTS WHO ARE POSITIVE FOR COVID-19. MOST OF THE REGION’S A THIRD OR MORE PATIENTS IN THE ICU OR COVID-19 POSITIVE. SO AGAIN WHAT YOU WILL SEE AS THE DARKER. OVER IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE STATE WILL BE THE DARKEST DOWN HERE. YOU LOOK AT THIS SLIDE THE CODE 0 75 PERCENT ICU. AND SO THIS IS THE REGION IT HAS THE HIGHEST THIS WOULD BE THE REGION NUMBER THREE, SOUTH SOUTHWEST, OHIO DAYTON REGION HAS THE LEAST BUT THEY’RE ALL YOU KNOW HIGHER CERTAINLY HIGHER THAN WE WOULD WE WOULD WANT THEM TO BE BUT THOSE ARE THE TWO MAPS REALLY WANT TO LOOK AT SOMETHING GET A QUICK GLANCE AT IT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT’S GOING ON IN YOUR COUNTY IN YOUR REGION. THAT’S PROBABLY THE BEST WAY TO DO IT. LET ME TALK ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS AND QUARANTINE SOMETHING THAT I’VE TALKED TO A LOT OF SUPERINTENDENTS OVER THE MONTHS HEARD A LOT OF REPORTS FROM THEM AS WE SAID LAST WEEK WHEN THE MAIN GOALS OF OUR COVID-19 VACCINATION PLAN IS TO GET K THROUGH 12 KIDS BACK IN SCHOOL FOR ALL PARENTS WHO WANT THEIR CHILD BACK IN SCHOOL AND ALL DISTRICTS THAT WANT TO BE BACK IN SCHOOL. WE WANT THEM TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO THAT. SCHOOL SETTING I THINK MOST EXPERTS BELIEVE IS THE BEST PLACE FOR MOST OF OUR KIDS TO LEARN AND SOCIALIZE. THERE’S NO QUESTION THAT ALSO SUPPORTS DEVELOP AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING. CRITICAL THAT WE ENSURE OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF RETURN TO SCHOOL SAFELY. AND WE BELIEVE THEY CAN DO THIS NOW BECAUSE OF A COUPLE REASONS AND ONE IS SOMETHING I’M ANNOUNCING TODAY, BUT LET’S START WITH WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT LAST WEEK AS PART OF THE NEXT PHASE IN OUR VACCINATION PLAN ADULTS ADULTS WORKING IN SCHOOLS. WHERE THERE ARE CHILDREN WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO RECEIVE THE VACCINE. WE DON’T HAVE A DATE YET. NOT A SPECIFIC DATE WHEN THIS WILL START. UM, AND SO WHAT WE WERE ASKING SCHOOLS TO DO IS TO COME UP WITH YOU PRECISE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THEIR SCHOOLS THE ADULTS WHETHER IT’S A CUSTODIAN WHETHER IT IS A TEACHER WHETHER IS COOKING IN THE CAFETERIA, WHATEVER THAT PERSON DOES AND THEY’RE INTERFACING WITH CHILDREN. WE WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO BE VACCINATED SO WE CAN GET HIM THE OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR SCHOOLS WOOD WOOD KIDS BACK IN SCHOOL. LET ME ALSO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE OUR SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN DOING A GREAT JOB IMPLEMENTING MEASURES WITH CONSISTENT MASKING. PHENOMENAL JOB DISTANCING GREAT JOB. THEY’VE BEEN PUTTING UP BARRIERS. THEY’RE DOING ALL THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE ASKED THEM TO DO. SO UP UNTIL TODAY WE HAVE FOLLOWED THE CDC GUIDELINES IN REGARD TO QUARANTINE. THAT’S WHAT WE HAVE DONE. WE FOLLOW THE CDC’S GUIDELINES. UM THIS HAS TO DO WITH STUDENTS WHO ARE IN CLOSE CONTACT. WITH ANOTHER STUDENT WHO ARE EXPOSED TO THAT STUDENT STUDENT WHO TESTED POSITIVE FOR FOR COVID-19 FOR EXAMPLE STUDENTS ARE SITTING IN A CLASSROOM THE IT USUALLY OCCURS. EVERYONE HAS A MASK ON. BOUGHT THEIR WITHIN SIX FEET OF EACH OTHER MORE CROWDED THAN DON’T HAVE THE ABILITY TO KEEP 6 FEET APART. THE CDC IS CALLED FOR A QUARANTINING OF THAT PARTICULAR STUDENT THE STUDENTS WHO WERE AROUND THAT STUDENT IN CLOSE CONTACT. BUT WE STARTED HEARING A NUMBER OF MONTHS AGO FROM SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS WHO SAID LOOK WE’RE QUARANTINED STUDENTS, BUT WE DON’T BELIEVE THAT THESE STUDENTS ARE REALLY HAVE BEEN INFECTED. AT LEAST WE’RE NOT SEEING SIGNS OF THAT. NOW WHAT WE DIDN’T KNOW IS WE DIDN’T HAVE ANY TESTS TO REALLY TO BACK THAT UP. WE DIDN’T HAVE ANY DATA TO SUPPORT THAT SO WE DECIDE TO TRY TO GO GET DATA SO THAT WE COULD MAKE A LOGICAL DECISION. SO EARLIER THIS YEAR WE PLEDGE TO LOOK AT THE RATE OF COVID TRANSMISSIONS IN OUR CLASSROOMS. WE ASKED RESEARCHERS. IT WAS CALLED THE OHIO SCHOOLS COVID-19 EVALUATION TEAM WHICH CONSISTS OF THE OHIO COLLEGES OF MEDICINE BOW. RESOURCE CENTER THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY, OHIO UNIVERSITY IN THE POST-ACUTE RAPID RESPONSE TEAM TO HELP US BY CONDUCTING AN EVALUATION IN R K THROUGH 12 SCHOOLS. DEER RESULTS SUPPORT WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SEEING AND HEARING ANECDOTALLY IN OUR SCHOOLS. AND THAT IS THAT AS LONG AS STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM WEAR MASKS. LONG AS THEY ARE MASKED COMPLIANT AND DO THE BEST THEY CAN WITH SOCIALLY DISTANCE THEY DO NOT HAVE AN INCREASED RISK OF CATCHING COVID-19 FROM A NEARBY A STUDENT WHO MAY HAVE HAD LET ME NOW GO TO DR. VAN DER HOFF WHO’S GOING TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE STUDY AND THEN WE’LL TALK ABOUT WHAT OUR NEW RECOMMENDATION IS GOING TO TO OUR SCHOOLS A DOCTOR. THANK YOU GOVERNOR. WELL AS YOU NOTED OUR UNDERSTANDING OF COVID-19 SAFETY IN OUR SCHOOLS HAS BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY ENLARGED NOW BY TWO NEW REPORTS OF THE FIRST IS THE ONE THAT YOU REFERENCED IN EVALUATION OF K THROUGH 12 STUDENTS BY RESEARCHERS OF THE OHIO SCHOOLS COVID-19 EVALUATION TEAM. THE SECOND IS REPORT FROM MISSISSIPPI. THAT WAS RECENTLY HIGHLIGHTED IN A PROMINENT CDC PUBLICATION OF THE DECEMBER 18TH. ADDITION OF MMWR I’LL START WITH OUR OHIO DATA WHICH INVOLVE THE TESTING OF 728 CHILDREN IN SEVEN SCHOOL DISTRICTS BETWEEN NOVEMBER 10TH IN DECEMBER 18. NOW AMONG THE STUDENTS WERE 524 CHILDREN WHO WELL IN A SCHOOL CLASSROOM WERE NOTED TO BE IN CLOSE CONTACT UNDER THE CURRENT CDC GUIDELINES WITH SOMEONE WITH COVID-19. IN THE STUDY WERE EITHER FURTHER AWAY IN THAT SAME CLASSROOM OR OUTSIDE THAT CLASSROOM BUT IN THE SAME GRADE AND HERE’S WHAT THE RESEARCHERS. THERE WAS NO DISCERNIBLE DIFFERENCE IN THE INCIDENCE RATE AMONG THE EXPOSED STUDENTS AND THE STUDENTS WHO WEREN’T EXPOSED FOR RATES FOR BOTH GROUPS HOVERED RIGHT AROUND THREE PERCENT NOW, IT’S IMPORTANT TO KNOW. THIS INVOLVE STUDENTS IN CLASSROOM SETTINGS NOT IN EXTRA-CURRICULAR OR COMMUNITY OR HOME SETTINGS. THE MISSISSIPPI REPORT I MENTIONED SUPPORTS OUR OHIO DATA. IT SHOWS THAT THE CLOSE CONTACTS OF CHILDREN WITH COVID-19. OR MORE LIKELY TO BE FAMILY MEMBERS AND LESS LIKELY TO BE CLASSMATES IMPORTANTLY. ATTENDING SCHOOL IN PERSON OR DURING THE TWO WEEKS BEFORE BEING TESTED WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCREASED LIKELIHOOD OF A POSITIVE COVID TEST. SO HERE’S WHAT WE BELIEVE AS GOVERNOR TO WINE JUST SAID. OUR SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN DOING A TREMENDOUS JOB OF IMPLEMENTING ROBUST SAFETY MEASURES. IN THEIR REPLY DAILY ACROSS THE STATE. OUR SCHOOLS REPRESENT THE SAFEST PLACE FOR MOST OF OUR STUDENTS. WHEN YOU COUPLE THIS WITH THE FACT THAT TEACHERS AND OTHER STAFF WILL SOON BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THE COVID-19 VACCINE. WE REALLY BELIEVE WE HAVE A SOLID PACKAGE NOW. WE’VE KNOWN FOR SOME TIME THAT BEING IN SCHOOL IS AS THE GOVERNOR REFERENCE IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS FOR THEIR ACADEMIC PROGRESS THEIR SOCIALIZATION THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL AND MENTAL HEALTH NOW WE HAVE THE DATA TO TELL US THAT SCHOOLS ALSO THE SAFEST PLACE FOR OUR STUDENTS EVEN IN THE MIDST OF THIS COVID-19 PANDEMIC GOVERNOR. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH. SO TODAY WE ARE CHANGING OUR GUIDANCE DOCTOR SAID WE CONTINUE TO LEARN MORE AND I KNOW THAT THERE’S BEEN A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN AND STUDENTS NOT BEING ABLE TO DO THINGS BECAUSE THEY’VE BEEN QUARANTINED AND I FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT AND I’M SORRY THAT THAT HAPPENED BUT YOU KNOW WE HAD TO GO FOLLOW THE CDC GUIDANCE CDC GUIDANCE STILL IS IS THAT HAS CHANGED A LITTLE BIT BUT STILL IS ESSENTIALLY THAT WHAT BASED ON THE DATA. WE NOW HAVE WE’RE CHANGING OUR GUIDANCE AND ARE NO LONGER RECOMMENDING THAT YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO ANOTHER COVID POSITIVE STUDENT QUARANTINE AS LONG. IT’S ALL STUDENTS WORRY MASK AND THE EXPOSURE TOOK PLACE IN A CLASSROOM SETTING. SO THAT’S THE LIMITATION ON IT, BUT WE’RE LIFTING THAT BASED UPON STUDY DOCTOR TALKED ABOUT AND ALSO THE STUDY THAT WE DID IN THE STATE OF, OHIO. SCHOOL SHOULD CONTINUE TO QUARANTINE EXPOSE STUDENTS IF MASKING DISTANCING PROTOCOLS HAVE NOT BEEN FOLLOWED. NOW I SAY THAT SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN A PHENOMENAL JOB AND STUDENTS HAVE DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB AND TEACHERS HAVE ABOUT MASKING AND THAT’S WHY WE’RE NOT SEEING THE SPREAD DIRECTLY IN OUR SCHOOLS AND CERTAINLY NOT FROM OUR CLASSROOMS. THE SCHOOL IS CHANGE IS NOT APPLY TO SCHOOL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING SPORTS. ULTIMATELY, THIS WILL BE ONE MORE STEP TO KEEP OUR KIDS IN THE CLASSROOM, WHICH WE KNOW IS WHERE WE WANT THEM TO BE. I WANT TO ANNOUNCE TODAY THE EXTENSION OF THE CURFEW AND HOW DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WILL BE EXTENDING THE 10 P.M. TO 5 A.M. STATEWIDE CURFEW FOR ANOTHER THREE WEEKS UNTIL JANUARY 23RD AS YOU CAN SEE OUR NUMBERS. OR SHORT OF IN A FLOCKS. THEY’RE NOT GOING DOWN AND WE’VE GOT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN REGARD TO THE HOLIDAYS AND IF THERE’S AN AFTERMATH IN REGARD TO THE HOLIDAYS AND FRANKLY WHILE THESE NUMBERS WERE GLAD THEY HAVE NOT OR NOT GOING UP LIKE THAT. THEY’RE PLATEAUED AT A VERY HIGH HIGH LEVEL. AGAIN, AS A REMINDER, THE CREW FEW DOES NOT APPLY TO THOSE GOING TO AND FROM WORK THOSE WHO HAVE AN EMERGENCY OR THOSE WHO NEED MEDICAL CARE. GRIFFEY IS NOT INTENDED TO STOP ANYONE FROM GETTING GROCERIES OR GOING TO THE PHARMACY. PICKING UP OR CARRYING OUT OR DRIVE THROUGH MEAL AND ORDERING FOR DELIVERY IS CERTAINLY PERMITTED BUT SERVING FOOD AND DRINK WITHIN ESTABLISHMENT MUST CEASE AT AT 10 P.M. THE EXTENDED ORDER WILL BE POSTED LATER TODAY AT CORONAVIRUS. OHIO DOT-GOV LET ME TALK FOR A MOMENT ABOUT THE RESTAURANT AND BAR GRANT PROGRAM AND THE SUMMARY OF THAT FRANKLY. IS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE TAK WHO NEEDS REALISTICALLY GIVEN THE GAP BETWEEN THE AVAILABLE SUPPLY AND THE DEMAND THAT THERE IS HOW LONG DO YOU THINK WHAT ARE THE EXPERTS TELLING YOU ABOUT HOW LONG THIS IS GOING TO TAKE JUST HAVING THOSE GROUPS ALONE JOHN. WE DON’T KNOW. I MEAN, HERE’S WHY WE DON’T KNOW WE JUST SAW IN GREAT BRITAIN. THERE WAS A NEW VACCINE THAT WAS APPROVED. WE ASSUME, YOU KNOW, OUR GOVERNMENT WILL APPROVE IT AT SOME POINT. WE DON’T KNOW THAT BUT WE ASSUME THAT WE ASSUME THERE’S OTHER VACCINES THAT ARE COMING ON SO WE DON’T KNOW. PRODUCTION WE CANNOT PREDICT THE PRODUCTION. WE HAVE TO DO IN, OHIO. AND THIS IS MY APPEAL TODAY. TO EVERYONE HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS WE’VE GOT TO TO EXECUTE ON WHAT WE HAVE. WE’RE GIVING VACCINES. WE’VE GOT TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO GET THEM INTO ARMS JUST AS QUICK AS WE CAN AND GET THEM INTO THE PRIORITY GROUPS THAT HAVE BEEN SET. THAT’S THAT’S WHAT OUR JOB IS AND LOOK WE SHOULD NOT BE FRUSTRATED BY NOT KNOWING EVERYTHING IN THE FUTURE. NOW THIS VACCINE WAS PRODUCED IN RECORD TIME. IT IS BY EVERY MEDICAL EXPERT WHO TALKS ABOUT IT A VERY VERY GOOD VACCINE. I’M GLAD WE HAVE IT OUR JOB IN OHIO IS TO TAKE THIS VACCINE AND TO GET IT INTO PEOPLE AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN AND WE’RE GOING TO DO IT. WE ARE DOING IT AND WE’RE GOING SPEED IT UP. GOVERNOR NEXT QUESTION IS THE LAST QUESTION FOR TODAY AND IT BELONGS TO RICK RUIN OF THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH. YOU HEAR ME NOW? YOU’RE ON NOW. OKAY. WONDERFUL. I WANTE TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE IT’S ANOTHER VACCINE QUESTION, BUT HOW THE RELATIVELY SLOW ROLLOUT TO THIS POINT IS GOING TO AFFECT THAT MUCH FIRST DATE THAT YOU’VE PREVIOUSLY TALKED ABOUT IN TRYING TO GET STUDENTS BACK INTO IN PERSON LEARNING. I THINK YOU TALKED ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT LAST WEEK AND WONDERING IF THIS MIGHT SLOW THAT DOWN IT REMAINS THE GOAL. IT REMAINS THE GOAL AND WE’RE FOCUSED ON IT. SO NO CHANGE. APPRECIATE IT VERY VERY MUCH. WELL, WISH EVERYBODY A HAPPY NEW YEAR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF THIS COMING YEAR. PROBABLY GOING TO REMAIN TOUGH. I DON’T HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL BETTER THAN ANYBODY ELSE’S BUT YOU KNOW, IT LOOKS LIKE IT’LL BE TOUGH. I THINK OHIOANS WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DO WHAT WE DO BEST. THINK ABOUT FOOTBALL TEAM. WE GOT A BLOCK WE GOT TO TACKLE. WE GOT CARRY OUT OUR MISSION OUR MISSION IS TO KEEP A DISTANCE MASK. KEEP A DISTANCE APART. DON’T YOU KNOW IF YOU’RE WITH SOMEONE ELSE WEAR A MASK SOMEONE WHO’S NOT IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD DOESN’T LIVE WITH YOU DON’T EAT WITH SOMEONE WHO’S NOT NOT IN YOUR IN YOUR IMMEDIATE HOUSEHOLD, AND WE’VE GOT TO EXECUTE ON THE VACCINES WHAT WE’VE TALKED ABOUT TODAY AND CARRY OUT THAT MISSION. SO IT’S IT’S BASICS. IT’S BACK TO BASICS. WE CAN DO THAT. WE’VE DONE IT BEFORE WE’LL DO IT AGAIN. I WISH EVERYBODY A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR. WE’RE GOING TO END ON UP WITH A VIDEO THAT WE RECEIVED FROM O MICHAEL DUSTMAN MICHAEL IS THE VICE PRESIDENT THE GROVE CITY HIGH SCHOOL BAND BOOSTERS. THE VIDEO IS FROM THE BROOK PARK MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND IN GROVE CITY VIDEO IS A VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE OF A CLASSIC

"You'll have a hospital that sets a day where they're supposed to get, they got everybody lined up. And guess what happened? Vaccine doesn't get there that day," DeWine said by way of an example. "Now we don't control that, they don't control that, but the vaccine doesn't get there. Gets there the next day. Then they got to scramble and redo that. What I'm, I put a bar up there today. I said, look, our goal should be for hospitals to turn it around in 24-hours."In the immediate future, Moderna plans to deliver 69,500 doses next week.Pfizer will send 70,200 doses next week for the initial shot and then another 90,475 doses for a second shot.He believes there will be weekly deliveries after that but has not received any confirmed information about it.
