Mount Notre Dame volleyball selected for ESPN volleyball invitational

Mount Notre Dame was chosen as one of four elite volleyball program to be featured in the GEICO Girls Volleyball Invitational that will be aired on ESPN+ and ESPNU Oct. 8 and 9 from Chandler, Ariz.

Mount Notre Dame kicks off the tournament facing California's Marymount High School at 8 p.m. on ESPN+. Assumption High School from Kentucky and Hamilton High School from Arizona make up the rest of the field.

The losers of each match will play in the third-place game at 8 p.m. on Oct. 9 on ESPN+ while the championship match will air at 10:30 on ESPNU.

The Mount Notre Dame student section cheers on the varsity volleyball team as senior Carly Hendrickson serves the ball against Ursuline Academy Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Mount Notre Dame has won 10 Ohio state titles and is 10-5 so far in 2021. The Cougars' first-round opponent, Marymount, is the No. 1 team in the country in the MaxPreps volleyball rankings. Louisville Assumption is also in the top 10 of the rankings.

The tournament is a part of the new ESPN Girls High School series which will feature similar tournaments for different sports in 2022.
