With less than a quarter of the school year complete, ten superintendents in Warren County are making sure healthy kids stay in school all year. "We do not want healthy children to be harmed by having to stay home from school," said Warren County Educational Service Center Superintendent Tom Isaacs. The districts will kick off its "Test and Stay" pilot program Tuesday in collaboration with the Warren County Combined Health District and the Ohio Department of Health. The program will give parents a choice if their child comes in close contact with someone with COVID-19. "What's going to happen in this program is parents will have a choice, they can keep their child home on a typical quarantine if that's what that family has decided as best for their child, or they can become part of this pilot program," Isaacs said. After school nurses conduct contact tracing, the family must agree to some rules:-The child will maintain wearing a mask at all times while in a school facility.-The child will maintain social distancing, and they will submit their child for COVID-19 testing at school.-They have to have a negative test on day three, and another negative test sometime between days five and seven."If the child remains negative, and has no symptoms, that child will be able to remain in school," Isaacs said. There are options to test at home through a telehealth experience, for verification purposes or on-site testing with school nurses. "There's not one test that's better than the other. They're actually the same test, it's just administered in different ways, so whatever's best for the family, so that all students have equal access to testing, we will provide both of those for our families," said Mason City Schools Superintendent Jonathan Cooper. To be eligible, students must test negative for COVID-19. The masks they wear will need to be two-ply, surgical masks.Participating districts include Carlisle Local Schools, Clinton-Massie Local Schools, Franklin City Schools, Kings Local Schools, Lebanon City Schools, Little Miami, Mason City Schools, Monroe City Schools, Springboro, Wayne Local Schools, the Warren County Career Center and the Warren County Educational Service Center.
