In his first interview since he suffered a knee injury in November, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow expressed support for head coach Zac Taylor and discussed how he felt his rookie season went.
Most importantly, Burrow said he expects to be ready to play in the Bengals 2021 season opener.
"Things are on track to start the season the way I need to,” Burrow said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Thursday. “Practice a little bit in fall camp and be ready to go… I think I’ll be ready. I think I’ll be just fine."
When Burrow injured his knee against the Washington Football Team on Nov. 22, it was unclear whether Burrow would be ready for the start of the 2021 season. Since then, he had surgery in Los Angeles and recently tweeted a video of him taking his first steps since the surgery.
Burrow said there was a “miserable” stretch of time where he needed constant support, but now he’s started to feel more independent.

“As soon as the injury happened, I was obviously devastated,” Burrow said. “I thought there were a lot of winnable games in that part of the schedule… Rehab has gone really well. I’m past the worst part and feel like a normal human."
Burrow also shared what it was like working with Taylor this season. Taylor has said they’ve been in touch almost every day, and Burrow supported his coach.
"I think Zac is going to be a great coach for a long time,” Burrow said. “I’m happy to be in the position that I’m in and to help build this organization, but it is going to be on Zac’s back. He’s the leader of what we are trying to do and he’s awesome."
