Two people were arrested after a 2-year-old died from suspected child abuse, according to the Hocking County Sheriff's Office.The sheriff's office said deputies were notified on Friday of a suspected child abuse case that happened at an apartment complex in Hocking County.Dispatchers received a 911 call of a 2-year-old who was not breathing. The child was taken to Hocking Valley Community Hospital and then to Nationwide Children's Hospital. The child died two days later, according to the sheriff's office.Detectives responded to the hospital and to the apartment complex to investigate the child's death."Evidence indicated that the child had suffered from abuse," detectives said.The Franklin County Coroner's Office is conducting an autopsy to determine a cause of death.The Hocking County Sheriff's Office arrested Destani Neel, 27, and Austin L. Starkey, 24, of Logan, Ohio, in relation to the 2-year-old's death. Both were charged with permitting child abuse and endangering children.Neel and Starkey are currently being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail where they await trial.Deputies are still investigating.
