A day after the initial Ohio Sportswriter's Association poll was released declaring St. Xavier High School as the top Division I football team, the OHSAA computer ratings, provided by JoeEitel.com, provide a difference of opinion.
This year, based on offseason changes, 16 teams from each region will qualify. So, if the season ended today, the No. 1 seed Moeller would play the No. 16 seed, which is now a tie between Lebanon or Oak Hills. Only one team in Division I, Region 4, will not make the playoffs.
In Division II, the computer also differs from the media as Kings is at No. 1 and La Salle No. 2. Just down the list are Turpin at No. 6 and Anderson at No. 8. Division II, Region 8 includes 25 teams vying for 16 playoff spots.
Division III features Badin as the No. 1 team in Region 12, followed by Ross at No. 2. Ross will be at Badin Saturday night with the game being played at Edgewood High School. There are 27 area teams in Region 12.
The top computer-ranked teams in Division IV, Region 16, are Wyoming at No. 4 and McNicholas at No. 5. Region 16 has 25 teams after 16 playoff positions.
Division V, Region 20, has Mariemont and Reading of the Cincinnati Hills League at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The squads meet up Oct. 15 at Mariemont. Region 20 features 26 teams.
Top local teams from Division VI, Region 24, are Gamble Montessori at No. 7 and Cincinnati Country Day at No. 8 among the 25 schools. In Division VII, Region 28, Cincinnati College Prep Academy comes in at No. 10 of the 28 schools in the grouping.
