COVID-19 surges making it hard to get tested


Lindsey Marty knew she and her son were symptomatic during the holidays, but she says she wants to know for sure.“I’m starting with a cough and some congestion. My son woke up with cough and congestion, so we just want to be prepared “As cases of the coronavirus omicron variant increase across the nation, testing is ramping up here in the tri-state area.Corey Marty tells of a familiar holiday experience.“We’ve had some exposures. I actually tested positive with the rapid test, and my daughter tested positive as well, so we are here for my wife now. It’s making its rounds.”The Marty family says those exposures and at-home positive test results directed them immediately to this Covington drive-through location. “It's impossible to get a booking anywhere else but CVS, everywhere is booked, doctors offices are booked. This is like the only option,” Corey Marty said.After closing for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, staffers say about 2,000 people will be tested today at Gravity Diagnostics in Covington. Some testers like Alyssa Smyth say it is the convenience of being able to wait in your own car that makes a big difference.“Even though the line is a little long, this place does get through the line very quickly. It's very convenient. It’s a lot easier than waiting in line at the urgent care.”The Marty’s say the wait can not hinder their need to be safe as COVID-19 cases begin to surge.“Be safe, get through January, hopefully.”
